Two major development proposals in the Malibu Civic Center/Pepperdine University area will be considered today by county planning authorities. The Board of Supervisors will hear an appeal of Rancho Malibu Mesa, a 300-room hotel that The Adamson Companies would like to build at Malibu Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway. The Malibu Township Council, a civic organization, filed the appeal.

And Pepperdine University will bring its expansion plans through 1997 before the Regional Planning Commission. The school is requesting permission to add about 700 units of student, staff and faculty housing, as well as facilities for its graduate business school and other professional schools. The planning commission’s decision in this case also can be appealed to the Board of Supervisors. Both projects also must be approved by the California Coastal Commission before construction can proceed.
