Legionnaires’ Bacteria in Hospital Air System

Traces of legionnaires’ Disease bacteria have been found in the air-conditioning system of a Stafford hospital where the world’s worst known outbreak of the disease has killed 37 people, health officials said today.

Jim Bartlett of the Mid-Staffordshire Health Authority said a small growth of legionnaires’ bacteria was found in a water sample taken from a cooling tower on the roof of Stafford District General Hospital.
