USOC Is Expecting Four Communities to Bid for Support for 1992 Winter Games
The United States Olympic Committee will entertain bids for the 1992 Winter Olympic Games at a meeting in Indianapolis June 15-16.
Four cities are expected to seek USOC support as a bid city for the 1992 games: Lake Placid, N.Y., site of the 1980 Winter Games; Salt Lake City; Reno-Tahoe, Nev.; and Anchorage, Ala.
Portland, Ore., was originally interested in the 1992 Games but has withdrawn, according to George D. Miller, USOC’s secretary general. Portland is expected instead to seek a position as host of the 1996 Winter Games, along with Denver.
The USOC will address other matters related to national amateur sports during the meetings.
The two-day session coincides with the USA-Mobil Nationals for track and field, scheduled for June 14-16 at the Indiana University Stadium at Indianapolis.
