Corona Resident Wounded by Sheriff’s Deputy as House Is Searched for Drugs
A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy shot a man Friday afternoon during a search for drugs in a house here.
The man, Manuel Gomez, 44, of Corona, was treated for a single gunshot wound in his chest at Corona Community Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition.
Corona police investigators were interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of the shooting, said Capt. John Dalzell.
The deputy involved was not identified.
The shooting occurred as police officers, sheriff’s deputies and representatives of the state Department of Justice, were conducting the search at 414 B Sheridan St. in central Corona, Dalzell said.
Small amounts of “heroin, and we don’t know what else” were found in the house, Dalzell said, and the substances will be analyzed.
