Citing Apartheid, Panama Severs Ties With S. Africa

Associated Press

Panama announced Friday that it has severed all diplomatic ties with South Africa because of its policy of apartheid.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement declaring that Panama consistently has supported U.N. resolutions condemning apartheid and that as a result, “the Panamanian consulate in South Africa was closed in 1984 and on May 23, 1985, the Panamanian government ended consular relations with the country.”
