The two most critically ill of the surviving Frustaci septuplets showed slight improvement, doctors at Childrens Hospital of Orange County reported. Doctors said James, the smallest of the five surviving babies, remained the most ill. His sister, Bonnie, also remained seriously ill. The other three babies--Patricia, Stephen and Richard--have continued to show daily improvement and are expected to grow to a normal childhood. All five babies are technically listed in critical condition, and will remain so as long as they are dependent on respirators. All five suffer from hyaline membrane disease, a lung disease common to babies born prematurely.
