President Reagan called a New York City woman who was trapped for six hours under a fallen 35-ton construction crane and told her he admires her courage. The woman’s doctors said she stands an excellent chance of retaining her legs. Brigitte Gerney’s optimistic outlook in the face of the accident that crushed her legs in Manhattan last week has won her widespread admiration. Surgeons inserted four steel pins into her broken legs and said she had “fighting chance” of regaining the use of her limbs.
