The Social Democratic Party withdrew from the government of Socialist Prime Minister Mario Soares today, creating a crisis that threatened to bring down Portugal’s 2-year-old coalition.

Social Democratic spokesmen, quoted by national news agencies and radio, said the party will withdraw its seven ministers from the 17-member Cabinet June 14--two days after Portugal signs the agreement that will make it a part of the European Economic Community.
