Mileage Mark Claimed for Australian Vehicle
From Reuters
SYDNEY, Australia —
A world fuel economy mark of 5,107 miles per gallon, set at an annual mileage marathon, was claimed Monday for an Australian-built lightweight three-wheel car.
Organizers of the weekend event said that Melbourne schoolteacher Debbie Winders drove the 48-pound car, powered by a model aircraft engine, and beat the mark set by a British team last year. Competitors had to circle a Sydney race track at an average speed of not less than 15.5 miles an hour.
