Gary Dotson’s attempt to clear his name of a rape that the alleged victim now says never occurred was scheduled to resume today in Cook County (Chicago) Criminal Court. Chief Judge Richard J. Fitzgerald has scheduled a hearing on Dotson’s petition for a new trial on charges he kidnaped and raped Cathleen Crowell Webb, 23, of New Hampshire, in 1977. Webb’s recantation of the charge six years after Dotson, 28, had been sent to prison led to a commutation of his 25- to 50-year prison term by Gov. James R. Thompson last month.
