U.N. Asks Famine Aid to Sudan

BRUSSELS —
The U.N. Childrens Fund appealed today for emergency aid to Sudan, where a famine is threatening more than 6 million people in a crisis equal to--or worse than--that of neighboring Ethiopia.
“There has been so much talk of Ethiopia that the world is forgetting what is happening elsewhere,” said Olivier Degreef, the UNICEF information officer in Belgium. “In Sudan, we now face a situation that is just as serious.”
