Visiting West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl on Tuesday night praised Yugoslavia’s contribution to political stability in the Balkans and said Belgrade’s efforts to surmount economic problems at home have won respect in his country.

Kohl, speaking at a dinner in his honor, said Yugoslavia’s “important and positive role” in southeastern Europe contributed to political and economic stability in the region.

The chancellor spoke after two hours of talks with Premier Milka Planinc, covering international issues including East-West relations.
