The Three Cs of Education

Share

Secretary of Education William J. Bennett (Editorial Pages, May 27) offers the American public his contribution to American education--the three Cs--content, character and choice.

If he had taken the trouble to visit some of the classrooms of our public education system, he would probably be amazed to find that content and character have always been an intricate part of the learning process.

Secretary Bennett could be of far greater assistance to our educators if he would help them explain some of the “models” that the government has tolerated.

Perhaps he could help explain:

1--How E.F. Hutton can carry on criminal acts, but not have anyone prosecuted.

2--How General Dynamics can cheat the government, but not have anyone prosecuted.

Educators could use some assistance explaining these situations to young minds.

Secretary Bennett’s third C-- choice (vouchers and tuition tax credits)--is nothing but another attack on the system of public education.
