Share

Construction of a 189-unit senior citizen housing and care complex is set to begin later this month on San Mateo Street near the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Warner Avenue.

Called Carmel Retirement Village, the $5.5-million facility--slated for completion early next year--will feature three three-story apartment buildings. Each of the one-bedroom apartments will have a walk-in closet, bath and living room.

The apartments will cluster around a central building with a community dining hall, library, card room, crafts room and a meeting room for tenants to host private dinner parties or entertain visitors.

Included in the monthly rent of about $1,000 will be a full-time activities director, 24-hour security, maid and linen service, transportation service and three daily meals. Extras include a hair salon and gift shop.

Carmel Retirement Village will be licensed by the state, and all residents must be ambulatory. For more information, call (714)973-1018.
