Local News in Brief : Northridge Hospital Obtains Pressurized Healing Chamber
Northridge Hospital Medical Center unveiled Monday a hyperbaric chamber that officials said will be used to treat decompression sickness, acute crash injuries, problem skin grafts and slow-healing wounds.
The L-shaped chamber, 35 feet on one side and 15 feet on the other, is the largest in the western United States, a hospital spokesman said.
The chamber will permit patients to receive 100% oxygen at two to three times normal atmospheric pressure. A hospital spokesman said those conditions speed healing for a variety of ailments.
