Argentina Firm on Falklands Claim

United Press International

Argentina said Monday that it will "not for one minute" give up its claim to the Falkland Islands, but it vowed to pursue a peaceful solution to the territorial dispute that sparked a war with Britain in 1982.

A Foreign Ministry statement on the occasion of a national holiday to celebrate Argentina's claim to the British colony in the South Atlantic criticized a military buildup by Britain in the Falklands.

"An area traditionally removed from the great strategic theaters of world conflicts has been transformed into a possible site of confrontations," the statement said.
