Argentina said Monday that it will “not for one minute” give up its claim to the Falkland Islands, but it vowed to pursue a peaceful solution to the territorial dispute that sparked a war with Britain in 1982.

A Foreign Ministry statement on the occasion of a national holiday to celebrate Argentina’s claim to the British colony in the South Atlantic criticized a military buildup by Britain in the Falklands.

“An area traditionally removed from the great strategic theaters of world conflicts has been transformed into a possible site of confrontations,” the statement said.
