Street improvements throughout the city, additional police personnel, the completion of the Brea Civic Culture Center and the addition of a fire station are included in the 1985-86 $29-million budget that city officials reviewed Tuesday.

Scheduled for its first public hearing on June 18, the budget includes $18.4 million for capital improvements, with almost $13.9 million slated for the redevelopment area known as Old Brea.

The Police Department asked for an extra detective, an administrative sergeant and three communication services officers. Next year, Brea police plan to give added attention to drunk drivers by assigning two officers whose primary task would be catching drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Fire Department requested the addition of a protection analyst to develop a program for state-mandated high-rise inspections. Also in the department’s budget is $760,000 for the construction of Fire Station No. 3 at Kraemer Avenue and Lambert Road.

In addition to reviewing the budget during the next month, city officials also will review a $25-million budget for the city’s Redevelopment Agency.
