Domestic electronics sales rose 20% last year.

Domestic sales of U.S. electronics companies totaled a record $225 billion, according to the American Electronics Assn. That compares to U.S. domestic electronics sales of $188 billion in 1983 and $168 billion in 1982. Overall, sales jumped 34% in the past two years. Meanwhile, the association said worldwide sales of U.S.-based electronics firms increased 15% last year to $305 billion, compared to $265 billion in 1983 and $240 billion in 1982. Worldwide sales of the U.S. electronics industries rose 28% in the past two years. Sales figures are estimates based on information published by the Commerce Department and on proprietary data of the industry association.
