Santa Ana : YWCA Gets $50,000 Toward a New Hotel

Share

The YWCA of Santa Ana received $50,000 Wednesday from the Orange County Board of Supervisors for a new hotel for homeless women. It will be built by raising the roof of the existing YWCA gymnasium to accommodate rooms for 40 lodgers.

The funds are a partial response to a challenge grant by the Irvine Co., which donated $100,000 to the project, half of the $200,000 total raised so far.

YWCA staff members estimate that $1 million will be needed to finish the hotel by the spring, 1986, deadline.

The hotel will accommodate some of the approximately 500 homeless women who often camp outside the YWCA facility at 1411 N. Broadway in Santa Ana after it closes at 5 p.m. daily.
