Computer Makers May Merge

Burroughs Corp. and Sperry Corp., two of the world’s largest computer makers, announced today that they have opened negotiations aimed at a merger of the companies in what could be a $6-billion deal.

New York-based Sperry, with sales of $5.2 billion in 1984, is the larger of the two companies. Burroughs, headquartered here, had 1984 sales of $4.9 billion.
