The City Council has unanimously approved plans to build a $1.3-million park at the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier. The park will include a 5,000-square-foot children’s area, a new gateway with plazas and palm trees and a retail section. Construction will start in 30 days, and the project is expected to be completed within a year.
