Department of Forestry officials in California and Nevada are working together to nab violators bringing fireworks into California. Barstow court officials say judges in the California city are levying fines of $85 on motorists who bring fireworks into the state from a stand just across the border in Sloan, Nev. Under California law, the possession of Class C fireworks, which include firecrackers, is a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and six months in jail. Possession of more than $1,700 worth of fireworks is considered a felony.
