Iranian artillery struck seven Iraqi towns and villages, Iraq said, despite a halt announced by Baghdad last week in attacks on civilian centers.

Iraq started a 15-day moratorium Saturday, but President Saddam Hussein warned that Baghdad would strike again if Iran failed to respond.

A war communique issued in Baghdad listed the border towns of Mandali and Halabjah among centers hit by Iranian artillery Saturday night and Sunday. But it maintained silence on Tehran reports of an Iranian advance, seizing fresh Iraqi territory, on the southern war front.

The Baghdad communique also said Iraqi helicopters and ground artillery struck at Iranian posts in the east Tigris River sector, destroying 13 boats.
