New incorporations increased 5.8% last year.

A record 634,991 new businesses were incorporated in 1984, up from the more than 600,400 in 1983, Dun & Bradstreet reported. Fifteen states had annual increases of at least 10%, the business information company said. Eight of the U.S. Census Bureau’s nine regions registered increases over 1983 levels, with only the West South Central region showing a decline, it said. Vermont, with 26.2%, posted the largest increase in new incorporations. Among top gainers were Georgia, with 21.6%; South Carolina, 20.7%, and New Hampshire, 20.6%. California had a gain of 10.1%.
