Services Scheduled for Vic Tanny

Funeral services for one-time health spa tycoon Vic Tanny are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Valley Oak Memorial Park and Mortuary, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village.

Tanny, 73, died June 11 at a hospital in Tampa, Fla.

The son of Italian immigrants, Victor A. Iannidinardo changed his surname to Ianni during World War II and evolved his professional name from that abbreviation.

He opened his first California gym in Santa Monica, and by 1960 had a nationwide chain of fitness and body-building emporia that reshaped the public image of health spas.
