A 26-year-old Iranian national was found guilty Monday of first-degree murder in the November, 1983, beating death of his girlfriend’s 7 1/2-month-old son.

A Superior Court jury returned the guilty verdict against Tony Fathi after two days of deliberation.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Rich King said trial testimony indicated that the victim, Daniel Teudurezcu, was pounded on his back so heavily by fists that his stomach burst. The defendant, King said, claimed his girlfriend killed the infant, who died at Childrens Hospital of Orange County.

The boy’s mother testified that Fathi had demanded that she put the baby up for adoption because he was not the boy’s father and could not return to Iran with an illegitimate child.

Superior Court Judge Richard Beacom scheduled sentencing for July 19.
