The Soviet Union may have detonated a underground atomic explosion last week, according to the Energy Department’s Atomic Energy Detection System. The agency said it recorded earth tremors late Friday, “presumably from a Soviet underground explosion.” The signals originated in the Semipalatinsk test area of the Soviet Union, the agency said, but no further details were provided.
