American Businessphones Inc. of Irvine has signed a preliminary agreement to acquire California Telamerica Inc., a 15-month-old, privately held company with offices in Torrance and Los Angeles.

Frank J. Feitz, chairman and president of American Businessphones, said in a statement that the acquisition will be completed on or before June 30. Feitz said the value of the cash-and-stock transaction will not be revealed until the deal is completed.

American Businessphones sells, installs and maintains telephone systems for commercial customers. Feitz said California Telamerica is “basically doing the exact same thing.” He said his company employs 175 and California Telamerica employs about 25.
