The Rhode Island Supreme Court has ordered its chief justice to appear today before an ethics panel--the Commission on Judicial Tenure and Discipline--investigating his acknowledged ties to reputed organized crime figures, sources said. The high court reinstated a subpoena of Chief Justice Joseph A. Bevilacqua that was thrown out last month by a lower court, according to the sources, who asked to remain anonymous.
