Norway’s first plane hijacking ended within four hours today when the drunken gunman handed his gun to police in exchange for more beer. He had previously released all 115 passengers from the Boeing 737, which had been hijacked on a domestic flight from Trondheim to Oslo.

The hijacker of the Braathen SAFE airliner was identified by police as a 24-year-old man with a previous criminal record. During the hijacking, he had demanded to speak with Prime Minister Kaare Willoch and asked for more beer, which he kept drinking during the drama.
