It Isn’t All Fun and Games Out There

After the 1984 Summer Olympics, I thought that the television networks would finally realize that track and field is recognized as a major sport throughout the world and there is a market for this sport in Los Angeles. But I was wrong.
On a recent weekend, CBS televised a tape of the NCAA outdoor championships which had been held two weeks earlier. The USA-Mobil championships were not televised by any network or even by any of the so-called sports cable stations. I suppose I will have to move to Eugene, Ore., or Western Europe to receive television coverage of track and field on a regular basis.
