A tip of the cap to NBC for its decision to preempt the Angel-White Sox game last Saturday to go live to Andrews Air Force Base for coverage of an emotional ceremony, the return of the bodies of the four Marines slain in El Salvador. NBC lost more than 15 minutes of its baseball to air this coverage.

ABC cut into its regular programming, “American Bandstand,” several minutes after NBC. CBS, however, chose not to air the ceremony, instead staying with its regular programming. A game show, “Anything for Money,” was being shown locally.

Even as an avid baseball fan, it’s refreshing to know that at least one network feels that some things are more important than a game, even if the game is important to the standings.
