Khomeini Likens Reagan to Beggar

LONDON — The Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran’s supreme leader, said President Reagan has been “begging . . . with a cap in his hand” for help in solving the Beirut hostage crisis, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.
“Although Washington has threatened to resort to force in its dealing with the captors of a group of American passengers, the U.S. President has been going around with a cap in his hand begging this and that person here and there throughout the world for his mediation in solving the hostage issue,” Khomeini was quoted as saying.
