South African troops killed 16 Namibian guerrillas in new clashes in southern Angola, raising to 61 the number of black-nationalist rebels slain over the last two days. Gen. Constand Viljoen, commmander of the South African armed forces, had pledged that his troops would leave Angola on Sunday. However, the withdrawal was delayed by renewed fighting and the seizure of arms caches, South African officers said.
