Federal authorities have indicated that accused Nazi war criminal Andrija Artukovic may be returned to Southern California from the Springfield, Mo., federal prison hospital, where the enfeebled 85-year-old man has been held since May. Assistant U.S. Atty. David Nimmer said the federal prison at Terminal Island now has adequate cardiac nurses to care for Artukovic, but added that he did not know when Artukovic, accused of complicity in the deaths of 770,000 Serbs, Gypsies and Jews in Yugoslavia during World War II, might be returned. Artukovic, whose attorneys are fighting extradition back to Yugoslavia, was moved to Missouri from the Long Beach Navy Hospital after officials there said they could not care for him. U.S. Magistrate John R. Kronenberg, who indicated last week that he is inclined to release the Huntington Beach resident on bail, set a hearing for July 10 to decide the matter.
