A judge consolidated San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock’s criminal case, meaning that the mayor’s Aug. 22 retrial will include all 16 counts that have been filed against him. San Diego Superior Court Judge William Todd also warned defense attorney Oscar Goodman that he will not delay the mayor’s retrial, despite Goodman’s commitment to a client in Las Vegas who is to be tried Aug. 5 on racketeering charges. Goodman said that trial is expected to last six to eight months. Goodman said he did not plan to ask for a delay in either case, adding that his schedule frequently conflicts. “They always work out,” he said. “Everybody will be happy.” Goodman said he may appeal Todd’s decision to consolidate three additional counts of perjury and conflict of interest with the one conspiracy and 12 perjury counts with which Hedgecock was originally charged. Jurors deadlocked 11 to 1 for conviction on all 13 original counts Feb. 13, leading to a mistrial.
