Three former University of Oregon wrestlers involved in a fatal 1984 van accident in Washington state have won a favorable court ruling allowing them to pursue full compensation for damages.

An attorney representing two of the wrestlers, said the ruling means that Washington standards allowing full compensation for damages will take precedence over Oregon law, which limits claims to $100,000 per individual and $300,000 per occurrence when the state is the target of a damage suit.

The decision stems from a Jan. 21, 1984, accident in which 11 Oregon wrestlers traveling to Pullman for a match with Washington State were injured when their van skidded on an icy road and tumbled down a steep ravine.

Two team members, Jed Kesey of Pleasant Hill, son of author Ken Kesey, and Lorenzo West of Portland, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
