Two newborn infants have become the latest victims to die from an outbreak of listeriosis, a bacterial ailment linked to Jalisco-brand Mexican-style cheeses. Los Angeles County health officials said the babies’ mothers, one 19 and the other 34, were Latino and both lived in East Los Angeles. It is not yet known if the women had eaten cheese manufactured by Jalisco Mexican Products Inc., but many of the victims have been pregnant Latino women and their newborn infants. The number of deaths and stillborn births caused by listeriosis reached 57 in California, with 34 in Los Angeles County.
