Soviet Envoy Defects to U.S.
A Soviet diplomat based in Greece defected recently and has come to the United States, the State Department said today.
The defection of Sergei Bokhane, first secretary of the Soviet Embassy in Greece, was first reported by the Athens Star, which said he was a member of the Soviet intelligence service GRU. The newspaper said Bokhane supplied Western security services with information on Soviet espionage activities in Greece and Soviet clandestine involvement in international labor movements, among other activities. The State Department had no comment on the reports.
