Justice Powell’s Hernia Surgery Called Success

WASHINGTON —
Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr. underwent “highly successful” hernia surgery at a Minnesota hospital on Monday, a spokeswoman for Powell confirmed Tuesday.
Powell, 77, experienced “no complications” in surgery described as a follow-up to an operation last January for removal of a cancerous prostate, Powell secretary Virginia Eggleston said. Powell was listed in good condition at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
