Swimmers are being sought by the Leukemia Society for its fourth annual Super Swim Classic fund-raiser on Aug. 17. The Swim Classic will be held at 14 pools throughout Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties; it is open to people of all ages and swimming abilities.

Swimmers interested in participating are being asked by the Leukemia Society to find sponsors for each lap they plan to swim. At each pool, swimmers raising the most money for the Leukemia Society are eligible to win such prizes as inflatable spacemen, popcorn poppers and popcorn, sports clocks, fast food certificates and water-resistant watches. Every swimmer will receive a certificate of participation. Those raising $50 will receive Swim Classic T-shirts.

Grand prizes to be awarded to the overall highest money-raisers in the event are: a trip for two to Sydney, Australia, via Continental Airlines and a week’s accommodations at the Hyatt Kingstgate Sydney hotel; three days and two nights at the San Francisco Hilton, compliments of AirCal; a choice of tickets for two to Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth or St. Louis, compliments of Jet America; tickets for two to any destination in the continental United States served by Republic Airlines; a lifetime gold membership to Magic Island; a one-year membership to Jack LaLanne’s European Health Spas; a breakfast-in-bed weekend at the Anaheim Sheraton and boat tickets to Catalina Island.

The cost of the Swim Classic is being underwritten by the South Coast chapter of the National Spa & Pool Institute (NSPI), which represents the pool, spa and hot tub industry in promoting public health and safety in the installation, maintenance and operation of these recreational amenities.

All proceeds from the Swim Classic will go to the Leukemia Society of America’s programs of research, patient aid, professional and public education and community service. The Tri-County chapter of the Leukemia Society serves patients in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties from its office at 202 Fashion Lane, Suite 215, Tustin.

Swimmers interested in registering for the event may call the Leukemia Society at (714) 838-2383.
