The first tropical storm of the 1985 hurricane season was developing over the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Bermuda, buffeting the island nation with winds of up to 41 m.p.h. Tropical Storm Ana was about 135 west of Bermuda and moving north-northwest at 6 m.p.h., with little change expected in its trajectory overnight, the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables, Fla., said. An Air Force reconnaissance plane flew over what was considered a tropical depression, but the system was upgraded to a tropical storm when the aircraft recorded sustained winds of 40 m.p.h.
