Sohio Petroleum will close its San Francisco office.
The unit of Cleveland-based Standard Oil of Ohio said production-related jobs will be transfered to Anchorage, Alaska, but some of its 650 employees will be laid off. Sohio Petroleum also said a Denver office will be consolidated with one in Dallas. Sohio expects to reduce its work force of 4,300 by 600 jobs, or 14%, through retirements and layoffs. Its parent announced earlier that it planned to eliminate 450 jobs at its own headquarters.
