Bedfellows

Share

What strange bedfellows! The Soviet Union, East Germany, Great Britain, Romania, Zimbabwe and the United States all together. To fight world hunger, you ask? No, rather to crush the anti-Communist, pro-Western insurgents in Mozambique (Times, July 7).

What a farce! The leader of the free world under a supposedly conservative President Reagan supporting, with $1.1 million in “non-lethal” military aid, the consolidation of Marxist rule in Mozambique. But then again such action is unfortunately not surprising, considering almost 70 years of credits, loans, and bail-outs for the Soviet Union itself.

The United States is once again selling out its friends (remember Iran?). The Soviets, East Germans, not to mention the Communist government of Mozambique, must be enjoying one hearty laugh courtesy of the American taxpayer.
