Howard Berg, biology professor at Caltech in Pasadena, has been selected as a fellow of the American Assn. for the Advancement of Science. Berg, who lives in Altadena, will conduct an investigation of the mechanisms of bacterial motion.

Eileen Schoellkopf of Pasadena has been named president of the Junior League of Pasadena. Cynthia Perucca of Pasadena was named administrative vice president, Susan Chandler of San Marino was named education vice president and Priscilla Gamb of Pasadena was named community vice president.

Dr. Phillip Pumerantz, president of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Defense University Foundation Inc. in Washington. The foundation, a nonprofit organization, was formed in 1982 to support the National Defense University, the National War College, the Industrial College of Armed Forces and the Armed Forces Staff College.
