Man Gets Three Years for Harboring Escapee

Share

A man who pleaded guilty to harboring a drug dealer who had escaped from the custody of Terminal Island Federal Prison guards was sentenced to three years in prison Monday.

Fernando Montes, 32, of Huntington Beach was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge A. Andrew Hauk in connection with the escape of Venezuelan drug dealer Alberto Montes-Cardena last April. (The two are not related.)

Montes-Cardena was freed by a gunman who leaped from a van in San Pedro and got the drop on two guards who were taking him to a doctor’s appointment. Montes hid Montes-Cardena in his apartment, and the Venezuelan remains at large, officials said.
