National City
Whoever stole a 1968 Dodge Charger in National City Wednesday got a bonus in the driver’s seat, National City police said.
A six-foot python named Morticia was resting there in a laundry bag.
Kenneth Bradford, 25, who has owned the 4-year-old snake since its infancy, said he left his pet in his mother’s car when he went to visit her Wednesday because she prefers that he not bring it in the house.
Melba Bradford’s white and blue Charger, which had been inoperative, was stolen from the East 8th Street address about 2 p.m., police said.
Bradford said the thief had to have seen the python and moved it out of the driver’s seat.
“I’m kind of bummed,” Kenneth said. “I just hope they don’t hurt her.”
Bradford said the snake, which he described as about 3 1/2 inches thick and “pretty strong,” can be dangerous around people it doesn’t know.
