3 Hondurans Held in Drug Case
Three Hondurans, including two former diplomats, were arrested and $19.2-million worth of cocaine was seized at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said today.
A U.S. Customs Service inspector discovered the 26.4 pounds of cocaine Monday while searching a suitcase that had arrived from Brazil, agency spokesman Mike Fleming said. The three men--Dr. Gustavo Alvardo, 34; Roberto Kattan, 40, former consul general in Brazil, and Oscar Judas Oqueli-Hernandez, 39, the former consul general in Los Angeles--are being held without bail.
