U.S. Copters to Ferry Sudan Food

WASHINGTON —
Three U.S. military helicopters will begin delivering emergency food supplies in western Sudan, a remote, famine-stricken area of Africa, it was announced today.
Peter McPherson, administrator of the Agency for International Development, said it is the first time American helicopters have been used in the African relief effort. The helicopters will be manned by Defense Department employees, he said.
