Iraq said its soldiers stormed Iranian positions on a mountain in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq and recaptured the site, which the Iraqis referred to only as Mt. 1666. In the fighting, 478 Iranians were killed, the Baghdad government said, mentioning no Iraqi casualties. An Iranian military spokesman denied the report, saying Iranian forces never occupied the mountain.
